John Bayley, academic, literary critic and author, who married st Iris Murdoch in 1956, and whose second wife and family friend, Audi Villers, survives him, has died in Lanzarote on 12 January 2015.

August 2015 The BBC is broadcasting several items on Iris Murdoch in recognition of the renewed interest in the author's work. These include a short play by Robin Brooks, a discussion on Woman's Hour with Dr. Anne Rowe which includes the dramatisation in five episodes of A Severed Head and the serialisation of the Booker prize-winning novel The Sea, The Sea on Sunday afternoons. September 2016. The new Iris Murdoch Research centre at Chichester University is to be launched with a Symposium at the University on 10 October
