Originally privately published in France in 1883 as a directory for English gentlemen wishing to visit the famous courtesans of Paris. 23 of the entries from this directory have been reproduced by Hanbury Press with accompanying illustrations. The illustrations are hidden in the uncut pages. An accompanying printed slip contains the instruction "please use a letter opener or sharp knife to slice open the pages to reveal the girls".

The first edition of The Art of Falling, with a print run of 2,000, was produced for Stamp Publishing by Troubador Publishing and went on sale on September 1, 2003.
A small number of mint condition copies remain, and a very few copies from the Stamp Publishing Limited Edition of 100 (signed and numbered). The book was later published by Random House.
