February 2009. J. K. Rowling has received the Legion d'Honneur from President Nicolas Sarkozy in the Elysee Palace in Paris. After the ceremony, J. K. Rowling revealed that her great-grandfather, Louis Valont, a French hero of the First World War, had also received the Legion d'Honneur for his exceptional courage before and during the Battle of Verdun.
